Dr. Carr served as Graduate Program Director at Michigan Tech from 1996–2003 and 2006–2010, and as undergraduate adviser from 2000–2009. At WMU he has mentored six faculty members in the Department of Computer Science through to tenure.
Curriculum development
Much of his NSF-funded work has been curricular, aimed at teaching topics that students typically find abstract — concurrency, access control, memory safety — through tools that let them see the behavior directly. That work is described in more detail on the research page, and the resulting papers are collected under publications.
Degree programs he has helped design, launch, or substantially revise:
- B.S. in Cyber AI, with the Department of Business Information Systems (in development)
- M.S. in Intelligent Systems and Data Engineering, with the Department of Industrial Engineering
- B.S. and M.S. in Cybersecurity, with the Department of Business Information Systems
- B.S. and M.S. in Data Science, in cooperation with the Department of Statistics
- The first major modification to WMU’s ABET-accredited B.S. in Computer Science, developed in consultation with the CS Industrial Advisory Board
- Digital manufacturing content within the manufacturing engineering technology curriculum
Accreditation
- Supervised the ABET accreditation process and successful next general review for the B.S. in Computer Science in 2017 and 2023.
- Supervised the successful initial ABET accreditation for the B.S. in Cybersecurity in 2024.
- ABET Program Evaluator (PEV) for the Computing Accreditation Commission — Computer Science.
